It acts by blocking the activity of 5-α-reductase, the enzyme responsible for the enlargement of the prostate. It would also increase the level of testosterone (male sexual homone) present in the body because it prevents the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone.
 
Saw palmetto helps maintain normal urinary function. A study conducted on nearly 300 men showed that the combination of nettle root and saw palmetto seeds helps reduce urinary discomfort in case of BPH.
