Probiotic bacteria act antagonistically to pathogenic microbes - they produce compounds, including organic acids, that lower the pH beyond the optimal value for the proper development of pathogenic cells. The use of a synbiotic brings special benefits because this preparation, in addition to bacterial cultures, also contains a medium in the form of inulin from chicory, which accelerates their reproduction in the intestines.
